Bringing the World to You

MUSIC & GEOGRAPHY: SINGING AROUND THE WORLD.

Anna has traveled extensively and brings a collection of her instruments from around the world to accompany songs from every continent.  Students “visit” all seven continents by identifying countries on a map and globe, and singing songs in native languages.  Teacher resource materials available.  Suitable for assemblies & smaller groups.  Grades Pre-K to 6.

FOLK SONGS AND TALES: EAST AFRICA, SOUTH AFRICA AND RUSSIA (3 separate programs).

Anna shares her songs, stories and real life artifacts from her travels to Kenya & Tanzania (EAST AFRICA), South Africa & Lesotho (SOUTH AFRICA), and Russia.  The programs give students the opportunity to experience another culture in their own classroom.  Anna brings books, dishes, clothing, money, toys and a selection of instruments from her collection into the classroom and allows the students to try them out.  Students are highly involved in the stories and songs using Kiswahili (EAST AFRICA), Zulu (SOUTH AFRICA) or Russian numbers and words.  Teacher resource materials available.  Maximum 50 students per session.  Program is adapted for any age level.

SINGING AROUND THE STATES.

Where did that song come from?  Anna shares the origins of now-common folk and children’s songs.  Included are songs and instruments from different regions around the U.S.A.  Students are invited to participate by singing, finding states on the map and playing instruments including: washboard, spoons, rattles, drums and limber jack.  Suitable for both assemblies and smaller groups.  K-8.

ART, MUSIC & CULTURE: FIESTA! DIA DE LOS MUERTOS.

Anna introduces students to The Day of the Dead, a Mexican celebration of the lives of our ancestors.  Plaster cast mask-making is the first part of this 2-hour workshop.  Anna supervises the students as they make plaster casts of their faces or hands.  While the masks dry, the students participate in a program of songs from and about Mexico, complete with authentic instruments and costumes.  Students use tempera paints to decorate their masks.  Teacher resource materials available.  Maximum 60 students per session.  All materials provided ($2.00/mask).  Grades 3-8.

EARTHDAY EVERYDAY.

Anna uses her collection of handmade and recycled instruments to engage students in songs about the natural world around them and how they can “help” the earth.  Students participate by singing songs, playing instruments, and becoming a group “rainbow”.  Teacher resource materials available.  Suitable for both assemblies and smaller groups.  Grades K-5.

ANNA’S APPALACHIAN ADVENTURE.

Anna has hiked well over 1500 miles on the Appalachian National Scenic Trail from Georgia to Maine.  After hiking through all or part of the 14 states on the Appalachian Trail, Anna brings the experience alive in the classroom.  Using a multi-media approach, including slides, power point, maps,  gear and her travel guitar, Anna engages students’ interest in our National Parks, backpacking, and the cultural & natural history of the Appalachian mountain region.  Suitable for both assemblies and smaller groups.  Student & teacher resource materials available.  Grades: 4 & up.

HEALTHY HABITS: HEALTHY HEARTS.

A vigorous, highly active program with songs and activities to promote good nutrition, exercise, caring and sharing.  Students participate by singing, dancing, jumping, passing pennies, and making up new verses to old songs.  Suitable for both assemblies and smaller groups.   Grades: K-8.

SINGING STORYBOOKS.

Using picture books based on traditional folk and popular children’s songs, younger readers “read-along” with Anna as they sing the stories together.  Anna has a huge collection of these engaging books, and children will clamor for more and more!  Anna’s most popular program!  Maximum 150 students per session.  Teacher resource materials available.  Grades: Pre-K - 3.

FUN WITH MUSIC.

Making music is easy in this highly interactive and hands-on workshop.  Anna will lead students (and teachers) as they make and play modern folk instruments, sing some songs and do a little dancing.  Some materials provided.  Grades: Pre-K to 4.

MISS ANNA’S MUSIC CLASS.

Join Miss Anna for a lively session of musical fun and games for parents and children 6 mos. to 5 years.  Sing-along, play-along and dance-along to sing-able songs.  This class will stimulate the imagination and creativity of both parent and child.  Teachers will find class-friendly activities and games appropriate for pre-schoolers.  Handouts with songs, activities and classroom tips will be available at each class session.  Parent participation is not required, but is an added bonus!  Rhythm instruments are provided for use during the program.  Parent & teacher resource materials available.  Ages: 5 and under.
