Bringing the World to You

MUSIC AND GEOGRAPHY: SINGING AROUND THE WORLD.  Anna has traveled extensively and brings a collection of her instruments from around the world to accompany songs from every continent.  Students “visit” all seven continents by identifying countries on a map and globe, and singing songs in native languages.  Teacher resource materials available.  Suitable for assemblies & smaller groups.  Program is adaptable for grades Pre-K to 6.  $250

ART, MUSIC AND CULTURE: FIESTA!  DIA DE LOS MUERTOS.  Anna introduces students to The Day of the Dead, a Mexican celebration of the lives of our ancestors.  Plaster mask-making is the first part of this 2-hour workshop.  Anna supervises the students as they make plaster casts of their faces or hands.  While the masks dry, the students participate in a program of songs from and about Mexico, complete with authentic instruments and costumes.  Students use tempera paints to decorate their masks.  Teacher resource materials available.  Max 50 students per session.  All materials provided ($1.75/mask).       Grades 3-8.  $250

FOLK SONGS AND TALES OF EAST AFRICA.  Anna shares her songs, stories and real life artifacts from Kenya and Tanzania.  This program gives students the opportunity to experience East African culture in their own classroom.  Anna brings Kenyan & Tanzanian books, dishes, clothing, money, toys, and her extensive collection of African folk instruments into the classroom and allows the students to try them out.  Students are highly involved in the stories and songs using Kiswahili numbers and words.  Teacher resource materials available.  Max 50 students per session.  Grades 2-8.  $250

SINGING STORYBOOKS.  Using picture books based on traditional folk and popular children's songs, younger readers “read-along” with Anna as they sing the stories together.  Anna has a huge collection of these engaging books, and children will clamor for more and more!  Anna's most popular program!  Max 150 students.  Grades Pre-K to 3.  $250

FUN WITH MUSIC.  Making music is easy in this highly interactive and hands-on workshop.  Anna will lead students (and teachers) as they make and play modern folk instruments, sing some songs and do a little dancing.  Some materials provided.  Grades Pre-K to 4.  $125/$250

SINGING AROUND THE STATES.  Where did that song come from?  Anna shares the origins of now-common folk and children's songs.  Included are songs and instruments from different regions around the U.S.A.  Students are invited to participate by singing, finding states on the map and playing instruments including: washboard, spoons, rattles, drums and limber jack.  Suitable for both assemblies & smaller groups.  Program is adaptable for grades K to 8.  $250

pic 1A HISTORY OF FOLK MUSIC THROUGH ITS INSTRUMENTS.  Anna has been collecting, playing and making “hand-made” folk instruments for more than a decade.  In this program, Anna introduces students to the concept of the diffusion of music across the continent using both traditional and home-made folk instruments.  Students are encouraged to participate by singing and playing various instruments: mountain dulcimer, banjo, jug, steel drum, spoons and more.  Suitable for both assemblies & smaller groups.  Program is adaptable for grades K to 8.  $250

DRUM WORKSHOP.      Anna brings along her collection of drums mainly from Africa and the Americas.  Students are introduced to many different drums including a log drum from Mexico, a two-headed paint-can drum from South Africa, goblet drums from Tennessee, an Indian tabla drum, and a doumbek from Pakistan.  Participants each make a durable, playable two-headed drum out of a recycled coffee or similar can and use it to participate in a drum circle-type rhythmic activity.  Adult assistance is helpful for younger students.  Program is suitable for grades K to 3.  All materials except cans provided.  $250

MISS ANNA'S MUSIC CLASS.  Join Miss Anna for a lively session of musical fun and games for parents and children 6 mos. to 5 years.  Sing-along, play-along and dance-along to sing-able songs.  This class will stimulate the imagination and creativity of both parent and child.  Teachers will find class-friendly activities and games appropriate for pre-schoolers.  Handouts with songs, activities and classroom tips will be available at each class session. Parent participation is not required, but is an added bonus!  Rhythm instruments provided for use during the program.  Ages 5 and under.  $125/$250

MISS ANNA'S SECRETS.  Would you like to have programs like these in your school on a regular basis?  Anna shares the results of her years of experience, research, and trial & error, to give you the resources to not only “do” these programs on your own, but also valuable insight and tips on developing your own programs.  As both a school music teacher and former classroom teacher, Anna can help you incorporate more music into your regular classroom routines.  Resource guide provided.
