ADULT and TEACHER WORKSHOPS Former elementary school teacher and professional musician, Anna Stange presents music programs linked with academic subject areas for all age levels, including Early Childhood programs. These workshops for teachers and other adults give participants the inside information on presenting music and doing music with children and students. About the Instructor: Anna Stange has a degree in Elementary Education with a focus on Integrating Music in the Curriculum. A former Kindergarten teacher and school Music Coordinator, she has designed and developed curriculum, produced integrated unit plans, and has worked with many teachers to integrate music into their everyday lessons. Anna has been working and performing professionally in the field of Children's Music since 1994. Anna coordinates Children's Music Programs at World Folk Music Company in Chicago's Beverly neighborhood where she teaches piano and guitar lessons to people age 5 and up, offers Infant/Toddler Music Classes, and trains other teachers. Music Is the Medium 2-hour, half-day, or full-day workshop for teachers and other youth service providers. Workshop presents tested, effective ways to use music in both formal and informal settings with children of all ages. Music can be the medium to facilitate learning, sharing, caring, and communication. Half and full-day workshops include hands-on and role-play activities. Handouts provided. Workshop focus is tailored to suit agency/group needs.
Workshop Outline: Miss Anna's Music Class, the Workshop Highly interactive 45-60 minute how-to workshop, geared to musicians, parents, and/or teachers who are interested in doing music classes with very young children. The workshop includes a short sample of Miss Anna's Music Class, a discussion of how to start and maintain a successful program, an outline of the flow of the class, a list of sample songs, and a short bibliography of age-appropriate illustrated story songs. Handouts provided. In Miss Anna's Music Classes, children come once a week for a 45-minute music class that incorporates music, movement, fingerplays, singing (mostly traditional folk songs), dancing, use of rhythm instruments, and stories.
Use of Music Across the Curriculum
for Non-Music Teachers Given the enormous potential of music to facilitate and promote learning and cognitive and social development, the importance of tapping into the musical intelligence cannot be understated. Geared specifically to the classroom teacher, this 2-hour, half-day, or full-day workshop gives teachers ideas and tools for integrating music as an effective teaching tool. Participants receive a resource list and annotated bibliography. Half and full-day workshops include hands-on learning and teacher-made instruments.
